In advance of the Saturday conference at Mankato State University, AEM has partnered with local arts organizations for a Friday Pre-Conference. For $60 you will be able to attend two artmaking sessions on Friday. An hour in between leaves time to enjoy lunch at a local venue. (You may REGISTER for this with your main conference registration)
Later - check out FREE events at a local school and MSUM, and in the evening, head over to the Chankaska Winery for some refreshments with colleagues!
The Mankato Makerspace is 501c3 non profit work space for artists, makers, and entrepreneurs. We supply the tools, experience, and a nurturing environment, you supply the hard work and imagination. At this event activities will include hands-on instruction in : Lathe Work for Wood, Acrylic Paint Pours, Jewelry Smithing, Metal Yard Art/ Welding, Glass Torch Work, and Operation of the Glowforge Laser Cutter. Participants will be able to dabble in all categories or, spend as much time as they like in any of the disciplines. The timeline is free form.
THE 410 PROJECT
410 Project is a volunteer-managed community art space, offering the opportunity for people to understand and value the arts through innovative experiences with contemporary art. Participants will be invited to create relief cut prints on fabric as a flag; with the theme of self-love, using images and colors that celebrate personal talents and ideas! The Annual Halloween exhibition will also be on display in the gallery, with writing prompts for the art works to inspire a short story or poem.
IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE PRE-CONFERENCE*, check-in will be at the Mankato Makerspace, 1700 3rd Ave, Mankato, MN, from 10 to 1030 on Friday, November 1st. Pick up your packet and find out which session you will attend first! Sessions will meet AT Mankato Makerspace and at The 410 Project. Session I will be from 10:30-1:30. Session II will meet from 1:30-4:30. Your Makerspace class will be three hours, your 410 project class will be two hours plus an hour for lunch.
*(Note: If you are not attending the pre-conference, you will pick up registration materials & check in AT MSUM - Centennial Student Union on Saturday morning).

Have you seen the follow up film to Andy Goldsworthy Rivers and Tides?Leaning Into the Wind delves deeper into Goldsworthy’s work/life and includes his daughter, Holly. It is a sensitive and beautiful film. Come watch as we stream it for AEM members and MSU students at 7pm in Nelson Rm 3 on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato. Parking is open after 6:30pm on campus. We’ll have popcorn to share and you can meet some of our art education majors!
