about Dr. Ramon Pastrano

Dr. Ramón A. Pastrano IV

Impact Lives President – CEO
Students are often exposed to a greater variety of cultures, peoples, ideas and histories in the art room than in most other courses!  How can art teachers present content accurately and fairly, in a manner that encourages connection?  How can we embrace differences and reject tokenism in our teaching and in our classrooms?

Art Educators of Minnesota presents Ramon Pastrano, of Impact Lives!, as our 2018 Fall Conference Featured Presenter.  Dr. Pastrano will engage participants in a rigorous exploration of our cultures, ideas, and understandings, and how they impact our thinking, teaching and learning.

Dr. Pastrano is an architect of system change and human transformation. He founded ImpactLives in 2007 as a center for cultural competence, and as laboratory social responsibility and innovation. Through awareness-based leadership and critical thinking, his model is designed to assist individuals and organizations in developing new frameworks from where to solve their most challenging problems. By critically reflecting on the social-cultural and geopolitical structures as a whole, his model helps to provide a better understanding of complex systems. His approach to problem-solving is multidisciplinary and integrates science, medicine, business, faith, anthropology and profound social change methodologies. Ramon is fluent in human-centered design, design thinking, transformational leadership, system thinking, service learning, social responsibility, social innovation and entrepreneurial leadership. Additionally, his innovative approach to inter-cultural competence and diversity, equity, and inclusion have been lauded by many organizations.

Ramon’s global experience is vast. He has traveled extensively for leadership engagement and humanitarian efforts throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Israel, Jordan, India, Palestine, Africa, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Korea, China, Cambodia, Thailand and Japan.

As a graduate of the U.S. Naval Supply Corps School, Ramon served as a Commanding Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Briar Cliff University and his Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary. He holds a Doctorate in Global Contextual Leadership from Bethel University.

Ramon spent 15 years as a surgical consultant and medical device specialist and has received recognition from Pfizer, Medtronic, and Warner-Lambert. Ramon is the recipient of the Doctor Act Award presented by TRANS4M Council for Research and Innovation in Switzerland. This award is given in recognition for outstanding achievement in Social Innovation.

“We cannot function in a multicultural world with monocultural mindsets. And, we cannot practice equity and inclusion without cultural competence and system thinking” RAP-IV
